Background

I have started this blog in an attempt to understand the current and recent history of health care among the Mayans in Guatemala. I encourage posts so that we can learn together how to help these wonderful people achieve their potential. These indigenous groups have suffered from a condition known as "medical pluralism": that is, Western medicine has been competing with the traditional healing medicines and herbs instead of trying to understand and adapt to the Maya culture. It is my hope that we can understand more clearly what has happened/is happening so we can resolve conflicts and empower the Maya communities to be able to take care of the problems and issues they face.

Check out my new podcast!

I added this podcast to my blog. It will help anyone understand how to research a topic. The material was taken from an interview with my aunt, Suzie Roper, who teaches a Research Methods class at BYU Provo. Enjoy!

  2. Good job on your podcast! I liked the information you gave-- I'm working on a research project for another class and your suggestions definitely apply. I also really liked the local music you used on your podcast.

I just have one suggestion for you: I noticed you say "um" a few times throughout your podcast. I would recommend you go back into your Audacity file and cut out those "um"s. It's really easy to do, and it would help your podcast sound more professional. Good luck!
